PRINCIPLES
FOR PERSONAL GROWTH, CHANGE,
AND TRUE
SUCCESS IN OUR LIFE AND SERVICE TO
OTHERS
How
to become all we can be and live at peace in our
world.
Principle
9 - Successful living, managing our time and money,
making the changes we want, and achieving our goals
requires that we know what we value and what we
want.
Years ago a research study came up with the number
“three percent”. Numerous antidotal stories and
experiences confirm the number. The three percent
are those people in the general population who are
“goal directed.” These people (the three percent)
have given thought to the purposes either pushing or
leading their lives. They have some specific
goals and objectives for their life and business.
These desires and wishes have been written down or
captured in some fashion. With these thoughts in
mind, they are working on a plan with benchmarks in
order to create their own destiny and get what they
want from their life so they can live well and serve
others.
Knowing what you want is vital to successful
living. We can live our lives intentionally or we
can take what we get accidentally. We need to
know what is the goal we are pressing towards. A
moment of reflection will show the simplicity and yet
the depth of this principle. We take time
management seriously. But there is never enough
time to do everything that is required of us or desired
of us; so we need to do what is important. Hence,
we need to know what is truly important, or what we
want so that we can set our priorities and manage our
time. The same thing is true of our money.
We can never have all the money we want or need; so to
mange it well, we need to know what we value and what
is truly important to us. Then we can use our
limited resources to achieve the maximum results for
our success.
Goals that are given to us by others and that are not
part of our deep desires will be exercises in
futility. There will be no passion or energy
pushing us on unless these goals are deeply rooted in
the realization that they will help us to get what we
want.
This is not a call for selfishness and cutthroat
competition. Getting what we want does not mean
that we are to try and keep others from getting what
they want. It is a call for personal
priority. It is also vital that we remember that
one of the best ways to get what you want is to help
others get what they want.
So let us remember
-- successful
living, managing our time and money, making the changes
we want, and achieving our goals
- requires
that we know what we value and what we
want.
